About Our Founder
With a 25-year career in healthcare marketing and business development, I've always found joy in another passion that's been quietly growing alongside my professional life - flowers. For years, I designed container gardens for myself, friends, family and colleagues simply out of love for the craft. But it wasn’t until I was preparing for my own wedding - a second marriage held at our home - that the idea for Petal & Planter truly came to life.
When I was getting the house ready, I asked a well-known landscape design company in Richmond if they could recommend someone to do the flower boxes on our front porch as my time was so limited. They weren’t sure, and the only thought was a high-end firm that would’ve come with a very high price tag. So, I decided to take it on myself. After all, my great-grandmother used to say “That Blair, she sure is capable.”
I had a clear vision that fall season and admittedly, I’m picky when it comes to design. When the team returned and saw what I’d created, they were genuinely surprised, and told me how talented I was. It was my husband , now my CFO and biggest cheerleader, who said, “You should really do this.” And that’s when the seed for Petal & Planter was planted.
Having lived in Richmond for nearly 40 years, I’m deeply connected to this community and inspired by its charm & seasons. As a small, woman-owned business, I take great pride in sourcing plants from local greenhouses and tailoring every container to fit each clients needs. Whether you’re looking for a striking seasonal moment or year-round maintenance, I bring both design expertise and personal attention to every project.
I love meeting people, getting inspired by their spaces (big or small), and creating something that feels fresh, thoughtful, and entirely theirs. I also love the process-from the thrill of sourcing plants to the quiet, messy work of arranging them. It’s not always easy, but the result is always worth it: a container that brings joy and beauty with every glance.
I’m also a 10-year breast cancer survivor, which has shaped how I view both life and work. I’ve learned what really matters and I feel incredibly blessed to do something I love so deeply. This business has been a gift, not just for me but for my whole family. I have two young boys who cheer me on at every install, and four adult stepchildren I adore.
Petal & Planter is, at its heart, a love story - of family, resilience, and growing something from the ground up.
